Filmed on: October 23, 2026 Location: Renshou Temple, Chancheng District, Foshan, Guangdong, China Renshou Temple is one of Foshan's four great Buddhist monasteries of the Qing dynasty, first founded in 1656 during the Shunzhi reign by the Vinaya master Zongtang on the bank of the Foshan Canal. It sits on Zumiao Road, a few hundred metres from the Foshan Ancestral Temple, and serves as the seat of the Foshan Buddhist Association. In 1958 the monastery was taken over by factories, with the Mahavira Hall converted into a lantern workshop for the Foshan Folk Art Research Society. The Ruyi Pagoda and surrounding land were returned to the Buddhist community in December 1993. After a long, interrupted restoration that began in 2014 and paused and resumed several times, the temple reopened in stages from May 2025. The 1935 Ruyi Pagoda — an octagonal, seven-storey, reinforced-concrete structure about 25 metres tall, with yellow glazed tile eaves and red-painted upper storeys — remains the most recognisable landmark, and the only surviving pagoda-shaped building in the old city core.
