Filmed on: October 27, 2026 Location: Shawan Ancient Town, Panyu District, Guangzhou, China Shawan Ancient Town was founded in the Southern Song dynasty and has a history of over 800 years. It is listed as a Chinese Historic and Cultural Town and is widely regarded as a representative of Guangfu culture in the Pearl River Delta. The village was built on the edge of an ancient bay, hence the name Shawan, meaning "sandy bay." The He, Wang, Li, Li and Zhao clans settled here over successive generations, and by the Ming and Qing dynasties Shawan had become a dense lineage village. The street grid runs largely east-west, with Anning Street and Chebei Street as the main axes, paved in grey granite. The architecture remains largely intact: Liu Geng Tang, a national key cultural relic, is described as the finest surviving ancestral hall in central Guangdong, while smaller details — oyster-shell walls, wok-ear gables, carved brick cornices — fill the side lanes. Shawan is also a birthplace of Cantonese music. In the late Qing and early Republic, the He brothers — He Liutang, He Shaoxia and He Yunian — composed pieces including "Rain on the Banana Leaves" and "Dragon Boat Racing" in the Sanren Hall.
