Rocky recounts growing up isolated on a farm in southeastern Alberta, lacking nurturing or a strong faith foundation, and later seeking identity through relationships and external validation.
After a destructive marriage, escalating complex PTSD, sleep deprivation, and fear for his children’s safety, he took a life and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. He describes prison’s monotonous routine, isolation, and the loss of family connections, as well as the hope he found through faith in God. Rocky explains how M2W2 mentors—especially a long-term friendship with volunteer Rob—provided nonjudgmental support, value, and stability during incarceration and after release.
Steve Roukema, M2W2’s executive director, outlines how the mentorship matching process works and emphasizes the ongoing need for more Christian mentors.
