In December 1944, the twin Belgian villages of Rocherath and Krinkelt became one of the most important choke points of the Battle of the Bulge. German forces needed the roads through these villages to push toward Elsenborn Ridge and open a route west for the Sixth Panzer Army. Standing in their way were soldiers of the U.S. 2nd and 99th Infantry Divisions, backed by a powerful concentration of American artillery.
In this video, we break down how American time-on-target fire worked and what it did to German assaults during the fighting at Rocherath-Krinkelt.
