But what happens when the medicine being administered may itself be counterfeit? A multi-state drug racket has allegedly supplied expired, unbranded and repackaged medicines to more than 90 hospitals and clinics. Investigators have arrested a Bengaluru pharmacist and uncovered a network stretching across several states. 👉🏽The disturbing question is no longer just who made the fake drugs. How did they make their way into hospitals in the first place? And who was looking the other way? Investigators allege that he supplied expired and unbranded medicines by passing them off as cancer drugs to more than 90 hospitals and clinics. “एक फार्मेसी वाला इसकी फोटो देख लीजिए इसका नाम है विरीश कुमार जैन यह वह आदमी है जो देश के 90 से ज्यादा अस्पतालों को एक्सपायर्ड और अनब्रांडेड मेडिसिन को कैंसर की मेडिसिन बताकर बेच रहा था” [02:21] [03:04] THIS WAS NOT JUST A BENGALURU OPERATION The investigation points to a wider network. Links have emerged across Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, suggesting that the supply chain may have extended far beyond Bengaluru. “हिमाचल हरियाणा कर्नाटक के और जिले और तमिलनाडु बाकी बाकी राज्यों में महाराष्ट्र तक में इस रैकेट के लिंक्स पाए जाने की खबर सामने आई है तो यह एक महज स्टेट लेड ऑपरेशन नहीं है इसकी कड़ियां बहुत लंबी जुड़ रही हैं” [03:16] [03:53] THE 50% DISCOUNT QUESTION Investigators say ICU injections were supplied to more than 90 hospitals and clinics in Bengaluru, with buyers allegedly offered discounts of up to 50%. That raises a critical question: when life-saving medicines are offered at unusually low prices, what checks are being carried out before they enter the medical supply chain? “आईसीयू के इंजेक्शंस होते हैं वो 90 से ज्यादा अस्पतालों में और क्लीनिक्स में बेंगलुरु में सप्लाई किए जा रहे थे और यह विरीश कुमार जैन इन दवाइयों को इन अस्पतालों और क्लीनिक्स तक बेचने के लिए सप्लाई करने के लिए 50% डिस्काउंट भी देता था इन अस्पतालों को जो इसके बयरर्स थे” [04:01] [04:55] EXPIRY DATES, LABELS AND REPACKAGING Investigators allegedly found a process in which expired medicines were repackaged, old labels removed and new labels attached. Some medicines were allegedly sold under the names of reputed pharmaceutical companies. “जब एक्सपायर्ड मेडिसिन थी उसको भी रिपैकेज किया जा रहा था कंटेनर बनाए जा रहे थे अलग से लेबल्स को निकाल के फिर से चिपकाया जा रहा था उसे रिअसेंबल किया जा रहा था कुछ रेप्यूटेड फार्मासटिकल कंपनीज के नाम पर यह दवाइयां बेची जा रही थी” [05:03] [06:51] THE ₹5-CRORE FARMHOUSE RAID A raid at a farmhouse near Bengaluru allegedly uncovered suspected medicines worth around ₹5 crore, along with fake bills, injection-filling equipment and counterfeit labels. “फार्म हाउस में बिदादी और दोहेरी एरिया है साउथ बेंगलुरु में जहां पर यह रेड हुई जहां पर उन्होंने सस्पेक्टेड मेडिसिंस को सीज किया इन दवाइयों की कीमत ₹5 करोड़ थी और उसमें नकली बिल इंजेक्शन भरने के इक्विपमेंट और काउंटर फीट लेबल्स भी थे” [06:51] ♦️A fake-drug racket does not survive on counterfeit labels alone.
