TEXAS 1974 Cold Case Solved After 46 Years — Police Questioned Her Killer Then Let Him Go On February 17, 1974, 17-year-old Carla Jan Walker was abducted at gunpoint from a bowling alley parking lot in Fort Worth, Texas, shortly after attending a Valentine's Day dance with her boyfriend, Rodney McCoy. Rodney was brutally attacked and left unconscious, while Carla disappeared into the night. Three days later, her body was discovered near Benbrook Lake, beginning one of Fort Worth's longest and most heartbreaking unsolved murder investigations. This video explores the extraordinary 46-year search for Carla's killer, including a disturbing detail: detectives had actually questioned the man responsible in April 1974 but lacked the forensic evidence needed to charge him. For decades, Carla's family continued demanding answers while crucial biological evidence remained preserved in police storage. In 2020, cold-case detectives Leah Wagner and Jeff Bennett partnered with Othram, a Texas forensic laboratory specializing in advanced DNA sequencing and investigative genetic genealogy. Their breakthrough led investigators back to Glen Samuel McCurley, a former suspect who had lived less than a mile from the original abduction scene. After DNA recovered from McCurley's discarded trash and a direct saliva sample matched evidence from Carla's clothing, he was arrested in September 2020. In August 2021, McCurley pleaded guilty to capital murder and received a life sentence without parole. He died in prison in July 2023. Beyond the investigation, this documentary remembers Carla Walker, the family who waited nearly half a century for justice, and the revolutionary forensic technology that finally uncovered a truth investigators had unknowingly encountered 46 years earlier. ``` 📚 REFERENCES & FURTHER READING Fort Worth Police Department — Carla Walker Cold Case Arrest Announcement (22/09/2020): http s://www.facebook.com/InsideFWPD/v...
