Next month, I turn 55 years old. Looking back at my life, nothing compares to the absolute leap of faith I took in August 2011, when I threw on a backpack, grabbed my acoustic guitar, left Evansville, Indiana, and boarded a one-way flight to Valencia, Spain. I was 39 years old—an age when most people are settling down. Instead, I blew up my life and started over in a foreign land with zero safety net. Welcome back to the channel. My name is Eppie. I’m an American singer-songwriter and independent musician, and today I’m sitting down to share the raw, unfiltered truth about what it really takes to move to Spain later in life. Before the music videos, before moving to a quiet Spanish village, and before building a beautiful life out here with my wife, I had to pay my dues. In this video, I talk about the absolute grind of the early days: teaching English under the table for cash, playing every open mic and street corner I could find, and at one lowest point, sleeping on a Valencia park bench for 11 straight days. If you are over 40, over 50, or planning your retirement abroad and wondering if it's "too late" to move to Spain or reinvent yourself—this video is for you. It wasn't always easy, but the beautiful people of Valencia took me in, and the life I've built here over the last 15 years was worth every single night on that bench.
