Ninety-six miles of the West Highland Way, and the walkers get every one of them. You've got a car and a long weekend - so which parts of Scotland's most famous walk can a driver actually reach, and which are closed to anything with wheels?
Callum drives the Way from Loch Lomond to Fort William and marks the line. The east-shore road dead-ends at Rowardennan, twelve miles past Drymen, and the stretch beyond it carries no public road at all: the only ways in are the long single-track from Aberfoyle to Inversnaid, or the waterbus across from Tarbet. Further north the road, the railway and the path run together - leave the car at Upper Tyndrum, walk to Bridge of Orchy, and let the train bring you back. There is a quiet public lane onto Rannoch Moor that almost nobody takes. And at the top of Glen Coe the arithmetic flips: nine miles on foot over the Devil's Staircase to Kinlochleven, about eighteen by road.
Parking charges, camping permits, boat and train timetables, and a two-day driving plan at the end.

DRIVING NOTE (checked at publication): there is no seasonal closure on the A82 or on any spur road in this video, but the A82 has had live roadworks near Kings House and repeated overnight closures (19:00-06:00) at and south of Rannoch Moor through 2026. Day two of the plan runs through that stretch - check Traffic Scotland before an early start or a late finish: https://trafficscotland.org
