This 10-minute dynamic mobility and full-body activation routine combines mobility, functional strength, balance, stability, rotation and core activation to help prepare your body to move. We're practicing 5 functional movements for approximately 60 seconds each and completing 2 rounds. No equipment needed. Use this as a morning movement practice, dynamic mobility routine, full-body warm-up, activation session, or simply 10 intentional minutes of movement during your day. This is what I call Physical Hygiene. Rather than waiting until our bodies feel stiff, weak or disconnected before paying attention to how we move, Physical Hygiene is about regularly practicing the physical qualities we want available to us throughout life. Today we're working on: Mobility • Rotation • Balance • Stability • Coordination • Core Control • Functional Strength TODAY'S 5 MOVEMENTS 1. Squat → Alternating Rotational Reach We start by combining a foundational lower-body movement with rotation and reaching. The squat asks the ankles, knees and hips to work together while the rotational reach brings the torso and shoulders into the movement. Instead of separating mobility and strength, we're beginning to connect them. 2. Reverse Lunge → Knee Drive Now we introduce unilateral movement. Stepping backward into the lunge requires lower-body control. Driving the knee forward asks us to transition back onto one leg and find our balance. We're practicing the ability to *decelerate, stabilize and transition between positions.* 3. Single-Leg Hinge → Knee Drive We continue working unilaterally, but change the movement pattern. The hinge challenges the posterior chain and hip while the standing leg provides stability. As we return to the knee drive, we have to reorganize the body and regain an upright position without losing control. Balance isn't simply standing still. It's our ability to maintain or regain control while we're moving. 4. Push-Up → Rotational Plank Now we take the practice to the ground. The push-up introduces upper-body strength before transitioning into rotation through the plank. The shoulders, trunk, hips and core have to communicate as we move between positions. This is one reason I love functional movement: We're rarely asking one muscle to work completely by itself. We're teaching different parts of the body to work together. 5. Bear Plank 4-Point Tap We finish each round with an integrated stability and coordination challenge. From the bear position, we maintain control through the trunk while reaching toward different points around the body. The goal isn't to move as quickly as possible. Move with intention. Create control. Notice how your body responds as your base of support changes. WHY THESE 5 MOVEMENTS? The sequence is intentional. We're moving through: Squat + rotation → lunge + balance → hinge + balance → push + rotation → integrated core stability. We're practicing different movement patterns while continually asking the body to stabilize, coordinate and adapt. Because everyday life doesn't happen in perfectly controlled exercise positions. We squat. Reach. Rotate. Step backward. Balance on one leg. Push ourselves away from things. Get onto the ground. Get ourselves back up. React when our balance changes. Capability comes from being able to connect these physical qualities together. That's why I'm less interested in creating workouts that simply exhaust us and more interested in creating movement practices that help us become better movers. That's Physical Hygiene. Regular, intentional movement for the body we live our entire lives in.
