The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has officially responded to the deadly aircraft crash that occurred in Kenge, Kwango Province, on September 25, 2026. During the Council of Ministers, President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi paid tribute to Lieutenant General Joseph Mutombo Katalayi Tiende, First President of the High Military Court, and Lieutenant General Lucien-René Likulia Bakumi, Auditor General of the FARDC. He also honoured the other members of the delegation and flight crew who lost their lives. In a separate statement signed by FARDC spokesperson Major General Sylvain Ekenge Bomusa Efomi, the Congolese army confirmed that the two senior military magistrates were returning from an official mission in Kikwit. The FARDC announced that investigations had been launched to establish the exact circumstances and causes of the crash. President Tshisekedi instructed the competent authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, extended national condolences to the victims’ families and called on the Congolese people to remain united during this period of mourning. This third report focuses exclusively on the official government and military response. It also examines the remaining discrepancies concerning the total number of people aboard the aircraft. While provincial authorities previously reported 17 fatalities, other flight information mentioned 16 occupants. The FARDC communiqué identified the two generals, twelve delegation members and members of the crew without providing one definitive total.
