When Water Returns, Communities Thrive: Cash-for-Work in Abyan Governorate

In #Abyan Governorate, Yemen, years of flooding, erosion, and sediment buildup damaged critical irrigation infrastructure, leaving thousands of farmers without reliable access to water. Through a Cash-for-Work initiative funded by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and implemented by CARE through the BRIGHTLY Consortium, vulnerable households earned temporary income while rehabilitating irrigation canals, gabion structures, and other community assets. The project engaged 180 households in restoring agricultural infrastructure across Khanfar and Ahwar districts, improving irrigation services for more than 2,000 farmers and supporting the cultivation of approximately 10,000 hectares of agricultural land.
