Enhancing Fisheries and Livelihood Opportunities for Coastal Communities in Hadhramout, Yemen

Every day, thousands of Yemenis work tirelessly to provide for their families despite economic hardship, climate-related challenges, and limited livelihood opportunities. In Hadhramout Governorate, coastal communities depend heavily on fishing for their income. Through the Capacity Building and Livelihood Enhancement Project, funded by German Cooperation (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ in partnership with CARE, fishermen and women received training, equipment, and productive assets to strengthen their livelihoods and build a more secure future. The project supported: ✅ Training for more than 2,000 fishermen across five districts ✅ Business development support for 70 women in coastal communities ✅ Distribution of fishing, safety, and quality-enhancement equipment ✅ Construction and rehabilitation of four fish landing centres ✅ Introduction of clean energy solutions and safety systems, including firefighting equipment at landing centres.
