Hello and Welcome to Deaf Talks News! You might have seen news about FCRA. What is it? Why did it change? Let me explain. FCRA is an act in the Indian constitution. For example, a person named David runs a small school for poor children. One day his cousin in America wants to send 10 lakh rupees to help the school. David can get money directly to his bank account but he has to pay tax for that amount. So David contacted the Indian government for permission and he explained that this money is for poor kids. He will not use this money for his personal benefit. So the government says okay but you must follow the FCRA rules. Open a special bank account only at SBI New Delhi. Show us all your receipts every year. Tell us who sent the money. Tell us what you will spend it on. So that the Indian government will know who is getting foreign money and why. This is called Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. When was FCRA introduced ? India first created FCRA in 1976 during the Emergency period. The government was worried that foreign countries might send money to influence Indian politics. After that they made very strict regulations. In 2010, 2020 a new improved FCRA law was made and now in 2026 the government wants to change it again. What is the new change in 2026 ? The old rule said if your FCRA licence is cancelled you lose permission to receive foreign money but you can hold your property. The new 2026 rule says If your FCRA licence is cancelled the government can take control of all your assets. Your buildings. Your land. Your hospital. Your school. Everything. In India many churches have their own hospitals and schools built many years back. Suddenly the government says they will cancel everything and take them back. This bill was not approved but sent to the parliament committee so that all the MPs will review it.
