Hi, welcome to Deaf Talks News! Imagine you were flying in a flight suddenly the flight was under terriost. The terrorists are armed and dangerous. They landed a flight in one country and that country supported the terrorists. What will you do ? This actually happened in 1976. Let me explain the full story. On 27 June 1976 — Air France Flight 139 took off from Tel Aviv, Israel heading to Paris, France. There were 248 passengers on board including the 12 crew members. The flight made a stop in Athens, Greece. In Athens, 4 new passengers boarded the plane. They were 2 Palestinians and 2 Germans and all terrorists. Eight minutes after taking off from Athens the hijacking began. The terrorists pulled out guns and grenades. They took complete control of the plane. The passengers were terrified. The terrorists landed the flight at Entebbe Airport in Uganda, Africa. The Ugandan government led by dictator Idi Amin fully supported the hijackers and welcomed them. Now the terrorists had the support of an entire country's army behind them. The hijackers demanded the release of 40 Palestinian militants imprisoned in Israel. They threatened to start killing hostages if their demands were not met. The hijackers separated all Israeli Jewish passengers from the others. They released all non-Jewish passengers. But kept all Israeli and Jewish hostages locked in one room of the airport terminal. The French crew of the Air France plane refused to leave. They voluntarily stayed behind with the Jewish hostages. Now 106 hostages remain in Entebbe Airport. Israel would not negotiate with terrorists. They planned for military actions. Israel built the same as the Entebbe airport terminal and practiced the rescue operation again and again. They used information gathered from released passengers about the exact layout inside. The operation was led by Lt Col Yonatan Netanyahu, older brother of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After 7 days,100 Israeli commandos travel from Israel to Uganda. They flew 4000 kilometres across the sky completely in secret. Nobody on the ground knew they were coming. The planes landed quietly at Entebbe Airport at night. The Israeli assault team quickly approached the terminal. As they burst into the hall the commandos shouted through a megaphone in both Hebrew and English Stay down! Stay down! We are Israeli soldiers! The commandos entered the rooms and shot dead all the hijackers. They then destroyed Uganda's military fighter planes on the runway to stop them from chasing the Israeli planes. Five Israeli commandos were wounded. And their unit commander Yonatan Netanyahu was shot and killed. He was the only Israeli soldier who died that night. His sacrifice saved 102 lives. The entire operation lasted just 90 minutes. 102 hostages were rescued and brought safely back to Israel. When the planes landed in Israel the entire nation celebrated.
