148 Makes Up Time: U.S. Sugar Express 5/30/2026

On Easter Sunday of 2026, a Fire in Glades County, Florida damaged one of the historic wooden trestle bridges along the route of the South Central Florida Express, operated by U.S. Sugar. The route, operating between Clewiston and Lake Placid, is the primary route for the Sugar Express. As such, the planned April 16th excursion had to be cancelled. However, to compensate, U.S. Sugar opted to add an additional trip on the 30th of May, and so, me and a friend, itching to see the 148 one more time before going on its usual summer hiatus, headed down to Clewiston to chase the train. As per usual, it was a fantastic trip, getting to see this high-stepping Pacific rocket down the line, doing what she was built to do.
