On July 31, 1960, a schoolteacher hunting for rocks near Congress, Arizona, found a little girl partially buried in a desert wash. No one came forward to claim her. The town of Prescott raised the money to bury her, and the stone they placed over her grave read "Little Miss Nobody."

Within days, investigators had looked at a 4-year-old girl abducted from Alamogordo, New Mexico, ten days earlier. An age estimate, the clothes she was found in, and an FBI footprint comparison ruled her out. The case went cold for more than half a century.
In 2015, the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office exhumed her with help from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Years of DNA testing came back inconclusive. Then in 2021, strangers across the country crowdfunded $4,000 in under 24 hours for advanced testing at Othram. In February 2022, a sibling DNA comparison confirmed what investigators had set aside in 1960. On March 15, 2022, the sheriff's office announced her name: Sharon Lee Gallegos, 4 years old.
Her abduction and death remain unsolved. If you have any information, contact Yavapai Silent Witness anonymously at 1-800-932-3232.
This is the story of a little girl who was nameless for 61 years, the town that cared for her without knowing who she was, and the people who spent years making sure her own name would finally be spoken over her.
