Well… I have a feeling Volker Pispers is about to absolutely destroy me for five videos straight. 😂🇩🇪🇺🇸 Today I'm reacting to Part 4 of Volker Pispers' "History of USA and Terrorism," an English-subtitled section of his political satire program "Bis neulich." The routine dates from 2004 and focuses heavily on American foreign policy, terrorism, 9/11 and the War on Terror. Pispers is known for sharp, sarcastic political satire, and American politics became one of the major subjects of his comedy, particularly during the George W. Bush administration and Iraq War era. Obviously, this is comedy and political commentary rather than a neutral history documentary. I'm reacting to Pispers' arguments, jokes and interpretation of events, so I'm not automatically endorsing every claim he makes. But that's exactly why I think this could be such an interesting series. How much of the historical context did I actually learn growing up in America? How different does American foreign policy look when it's being discussed by a German comedian? And almost 25 years after 9/11, how differently do some of these arguments hit today? There is also a much longer history behind American counterterrorism policy than just the post-9/11 era; U.S. approaches evolved substantially throughout the Cold War and were fundamentally reshaped after September 11. And this is PART FOUR.
