EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Season 1 Whalers Game 24 | The Rangers Come Hunting a Win in Hartford

The Whalers beat the Rangers 4-1 in Game 15 in New York and in Game 24 they came to Hartford looking for the win. Hartford had the edge in chances in the 1st period but Mike Richter was solid and kept the Whalers off the sheet as did Sean Burke against the Rangers. Shots at the 1st intermission were HTF 16 and NYR 6. Hartford cracked the seal just 18 seconds into the 2nd period. Andrew Cassels went top-glove past Mike Richter and old-timey goalie Jeff Beukeboom off a short pass from Adam Burt. They struck again a bit more than two minutes later when Geoff Sanderson got credit on the powerplay for a Rangers' own-goal when Brian Leetch stuffed the puck in past Mike Richter. New York steadied their ship after that but with about four-and-a-half minutes to go Hartford scored again to establish the coveted 3-goal lead at 3-0. Geoff Sanders scored just after a New York powerplay ended with a blast top-blocker-side from between the hashes off some great work and a lovely backhand pass from Darren Turcotte who worked hard to bully his way into the zone to the net. Shots at the 2nd break were HTF 29 and NYR 12. Both teams got good chances in the 3rd period and Hartford extended their lead with six minutes to go. Andrew Cassels beat Mike Richter blocker-side from the side of the net off a sweet backhand pass from Geoff Sanderson who made a nice steal from Jeff Beukeboom near the boards. Mike Richter was out after that and Glenn Healy came in. Hartford welcomed Healy to the party after 4 shots when Geoff Sanderson completed his hat-trick with a blind backhander blocker-side from the top of the circle off a pass from Andrew Cassels. The Whalers won 5-0 in front of their hometown fans and Sean Burke earned another shut-out with 23 saves. Enjoy!
