Dodging Cars & Pedestrians on Maryland Backroads & Trails
Come along for another relaxing ride through Maryland neighborhoods, scenic backroads, winding bike trails, wooded greenways, and, naturally, another visit to the ever-unpredictable haunted golf course.
No racing, no training plans, and no pressure to chase personal records. Just a bike, another summer evening, and whatever adventures happen to unfold along the route.
One of the things I enjoy most about riding these same roads week after week is seeing how different each ride becomes. The weather changes, the scenery evolves, wildlife appears when you least expect it, and sometimes the biggest challenge is simply navigating everything happening around you.
From the very first mile, it was clear this wasn’t going to be one of the quieter rides. Cars were everywhere, pedestrians filled the shared paths, cyclists were out enjoying the weather, and dogs seemed to be leading their humans in every direction imaginable. It definitely kept me paying attention and reminded me that riding is often just as much about awareness as it is about pedaling.
On the golf course there was not one deer… not two… but what felt like an entire deer convention had gathered out on the course. Apparently word has spread that it’s the place to be. Adding to the mystery were piles of freshly cut branches and debris scattered along sections of the trail. It looked like someone had been doing a serious amount of cleanup, but they hadn’t quite finished the job.
And yes, before the gear experts arrive in the comments, I am fully aware that I don’t shift nearly as often as I probably should. My strategy remains simple: put the bike in a difficult gear and see who gives up first, me or the drivetrain. Somehow we’ve both survived another episode.
Whether you’re riding indoors, relaxing after work, studying, working, or simply looking for a peaceful virtual cycling experience, thanks for joining me for another ride through Maryland.
