A Band 9 IELTS Writing Task 2 "discuss both views" essay, built step by step with a teacher. The question: should students be allowed to bring their notes and textbooks into exams, or should exams test what they can remember? See how to give each side a fair paragraph, where your own opinion goes, and the phrases that lift the essay to Band 9.
How to practise with this video
1. Pause after the question and plan both sides yourself for five minutes.
2. Check your plan: does each view get its own paragraph, and is your opinion clear from the start?
3. Take three of the phrases and use them in your next essay.
4. Write your own answer in 40 minutes, then compare it with the five checks at the end.
