#DollarTree #LivingAlone #TheOldMexicanWay My vecina Doña Chelo was widowed in March, and her son wanted to put her on a monthly alarm contract. I took her to Dollar Tree instead with a list on the back of a receipt. Fifteen things, under twenty dollars, and she sleeps now. Nothing in the bag stops a burglar. It gives you noise, light, and a house that looks watched, which is exactly what sends a thief to the next house. 📖 The Old Mexican Way, every old-ways habit for the whole house in one book: https://oldmexicanway.com The fifteen things, in the order you meet them walking up to the house: 1️⃣ Jingle bells on the inside handle of the back door ($1.25, craft aisle). For the afternoon, not the night: most break-ins are an unlocked back door in the daytime. 2️⃣ The door stop alarm under the front door ($1.25, some stores $3). 120 decibels. A noise and a wedge, not a lock. Off / chime / alarm. 3️⃣ Two window alarms ($1.25 the pair): one on the back door, one on the bedroom window. Clean the paint with alcohol first. 4️⃣ The plain rubber wedge for the bedroom door ($1.25). The second door, the one that buys minutes. 5️⃣ Stick-on motion lights ($1.25 each): one under the eave over the step, one inside over the door. 6️⃣ Solar stake lights along the path ($1.25 each, six of them). A lit approach, not a lit house. 7️⃣ Frosted privacy film on the glass beside the door ($1.25). Nobody on the porch reads your house. 8️⃣ The camera sign ($1.25). A bluff, and the book says cheap bluffs work. Spend on the frame first. 9️⃣ Bags of white stone under the bedroom windows ($1.25 each, 4 to 5 bags). Gravel that crunches. 🔟 Men's work gloves on the porch rail ($1.25, largest size). "We," never "I." 1️⃣1️⃣ Reflective house numbers ($1.25). Not against a thief. For the night the ambulance looks for you. 1️⃣2️⃣ The index card inside the door ($1.25): the utility and police numbers YOU looked up. "Wait there, I am calling the company." Call your number, never his. 1️⃣3️⃣ The key hook, high, out of sight of the glass ($1.25). And say "cerrado" out loud every time. 1️⃣4️⃣ The flashlight on the second hook ($1.25). One step from the door, never a drawer. 1️⃣5️⃣ The personal alarm on the inside knob ($1.25, some $3). Your hand is on the cord before you open to a stranger. The honest word: all of it is noise and light. The three-inch screws in the door frame (my other video) hold the door; do those first. Batteries die, so test every alarm on the first of the month. And no sticker replaces the vecina who knows your schedule. Chapters: 0:00 Doña Chelo's bag 1:45 1. Bells on the back door 2:48 2. The door stop alarm 3:58 The Old Mexican Way 4:24 3. This channel is the old ways, from the women in my family to you. I was widowed at 49 after thirty-one years, I raised six children in my mother's house in Guadalajara, and I live alone now. Tell me in the comments which one you already had, and tell me your county too. I read every one. This is not legal or safety advice from a professional.
