This sermon walks through Jesus' trial before Pilate in John 18:38-19:16: the choice of Barabbas, the mocking crown and purple robe, "Behold the man," and Jesus' silence as the crowd demands his crucifixion. It shows that Jesus stays in full control the whole way to the cross, and that God's plan never depended on Pilate or the crowd. Three applications follow. We complain too much, so we are called to trust God's plan instead of growing impatient with the unfairness around us. We are judged when we think we are the judges, because Christ sees everything and rewards faithfulness. And we should never doubt that Jesus loves us, since the cross is the proof of that love.
