Psalms 37 - The Heritage of the Meek

Verse 1 Why fret thy soul with wicked schemes, Or envy those who walk in pride? For like the grass, their splendor gleams, And like the flow’r, they soon shall die. Trust in the Lord, with patience wait, And do the good He has ordained; Secure in Him, thy heart elate, The land shall be thy lasting gain. Chorus Delight thyself in God the Lord, Thy heart’s desire He shall accord. Commit thy way, be still, and see, The Lord’s strong arm shall set thee free. Verse 2 The wicked plot against the just, And gnash their teeth with angry spite; But God shall bring their schemes to dust, He sees their day, He knows their might. The meek, He shall exalt on high, The poor in spirit, He will raise; Upon the earth, their place shall lie, In endless, everlasting praise. Chorus Delight thyself in God the Lord, Thy heart’s desire He shall accord. Commit thy way, be still, and see, The Lord’s strong arm shall set thee free. Verse 3 Depart from sin, and seek His peace, Thy footstep He will safely guide; Though some may fall and others cease, The righteous stand, whate’er betide. Behold the man of worldly pow’r, His strength is spent, his hope is dead; But God preserves, from hour to hour, The perfect path the righteous tread. Chorus Delight thyself in God the Lord, Thy heart’s desire He shall accord. Commit thy way, be still, and see, The Lord’s strong arm shall set thee free. Verse 4 Salvation comes from God alone, In time of trouble, He is strong; He is our Rock, a sure foundation, To right each ancient, waiting wrong. The wicked from the land shall cease, No more to vex or to molest; But God shall grant His people peace, A heritage of endless rest. Final Chorus Delight thyself in God the Lord, Thy heart’s desire He shall accord. Commit thy way, be still, and see, The Lord’s strong arm shall set thee free. The Lord’s strong arm shall set thee free! Closing Doxology Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, One God, on whom our hope is built; Through Christ, who saved the heavenly host, And in His blood washed all our guilt. Amen.
