QUESTIONS THIS DOCUMENTARY ANSWERS
What happened on Flight 7598?
At approximately 1:53 p.m., the Boeing 767 crossed the runway threshold at 177 knots and touched down about 3,750 feet beyond it. It left the runway at 113 knots, struck a van and crossed a road before hitting an SUV.
What did the pilots hear during the approach?
The cockpit recorder captured repeated speed concerns and “sink rate” and “too low terrain” warnings. The captain called for a go-around but the aircraft did not take off again.
Did the wind affect the landing?
The NTSB reported a tailwind component and found that the landing clearance did not include wind information, although FAA procedures required it under those conditions. Its contribution has not been determined.
Why didn't the plane stop?
Flight data show that the speed brakes stayed stowed and the thrust reversers never deployed. Braking was interrupted during a brief go-around attempt, then resumed. Why remains under investigation. The runway had no engineered arresting bed to slow an overrun.
Who died in the accident?
Five employees of Professional Ocean Service Corp. died: Rolando Aleman Leon, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, Julio C. Pineda, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo. Two colleagues in their van and a person in another vehicle were seriously injured.
What has the NTSB concluded?
As of October 23, 2026, the NTSB has issued preliminary findings, not a final cause.
