Today I chased Union Pacific's Chino Local, LOS29, from its home yard of City of Industry onto the Chino Industrial Lead. Today's entire run is documented as usual, with the train having a light load of two customers to switch today. A unique locomotive is on point today, UP 723, a GP38-2 that lacks RCL. All other GP38-2s in SoCal have RCL equipment, making this one able to show up on non RCL jobs such as the Chino Local. We start off at City of Industry Yard, where the power wyes itself to put 723 in the lead, before coupling into its sole loaded car for the trip east. I repositioned to CP Hamilton on the Alhambra Sub to see the small train race by on its way to Chino. I get ahead of it several times in Pomona on the Chino Industrial Lead after the train diverged onto the branch at WO Tower. It then arrives at its first customer of the day, EcoMaterial Technologies, where it picks up three empty fly-ash hoppers. I then get ahead of it more times after it crossed the county line and entered the City of Chino. As it pressed further into the City of Chino, it shoves down the streetrunning portion, before wying, and dropping the loaded hopper at Berry Plastics. It then shoved back up the street running where I paced it, and then caught it several more times in Chino and Pomona before it waited at WO Tower for authority on the Los Angeles Subdivision. I caught it a last time blasting west at the Pomona Downtown Metrolink Station as it headed home to the City of Industry. Thank you for watching!
