Horrified by the life he has created, Victor abandons the helpless being and flees from the consequences of his ambition. His terror consumes him, leaving him feverish and broken, while the loyal Henry Clerval nurses him back to health, unaware of the secret his friend refuses to confess. Somewhere beyond Victor’s sickroom, his forsaken creation faces the world entirely alone.
(Verse 1)
He fled the room where life had stirred beneath the night,
And left his helpless work alone beyond his sight.
Through empty streets he wandered, shaken by his fear,
While what he had abandoned waited for him near.
(Verse 2)
At morning Henry found him wandering pale and worn,
A friend returned to greet him on that bitter morn.
But Victor’s terror broke the strength within his frame,
And fever took the man who dared to kindle flame.
(Chorus)
He fled the life his restless hands had dared to raise,
And hid the truth beneath a fever’s burning haze.
While Henry watched beside him, faithful through the night,
The nameless child was left to face the world’s cold light.
(Verse 3)
For many weeks he drifted far from waking thought,
Tormented by the secret horror he had wrought.
And Henry stayed beside him, patient, kind and true,
Yet never learned the dreadful thing his comrade knew.
(Verse 4)
As health returned, he turned from every former scheme,
And tried to cast creation from his waking dream.
He spoke of home and friendship, books and brighter days,
But silence kept the Creature hidden in the haze.
(Chorus)
He fled the life his restless hands had dared to raise,
And hid the truth beneath a fever’s burning haze.
While Henry watched beside him, faithful through the night,
The nameless child was left to face the world’s cold light.
(Bridge)
No father’s hand had guided what his hands had made,
No word of care was given when he turned afraid.
The son awoke unwanted, ignorant and alone,
While Victor healed in comfort he had never known.
(Outro)
The fever passed, yet still the secret held its breath,
A silent seed already reaching out towards death.
He thought that flight could bury what his hands had done,
But through the dark his abandoned child had begun.
