Hotel Inn Salland - Raalte (More info in the description)

I often find myself wondering who actually books a hotel like this. Business travellers? Families on a road trip? Or people like us, simply looking to explore the surrounding countryside? About 20 to 25 minutes by car from Zwolle city centre, Hotel Inn Salland sits in a fairly secluded spot, right along a busy road in Raalte. The hotel is built in the style of a traditional Saxon farmhouse and, despite dating from 2009, has a characterful look thanks to being constructed with 80% recycled building materials. The suite turned out to be very reasonably priced, so we upgraded right away. The room was spacious, though quite dated… I think they could easily justify charging a bit more if they gave the exterior a little extra attention. Dinner at the brasserie, on the other hand, was a real highlight. The dishes looked great and tasted even better. Breakfast the next morning was solid too, nothing fancy, but perfectly good. As for things to do in the area: Raalte lies in the heart of the Salland region, nestled between the river IJssel and the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park, making it a fantastic base for walking and cycling. The countryside here is dotted with country estates and charming villages. We visited Kasteel Het Nijenhuis, which is an absolute must-see if you're in the area. The combination of the castle grounds and the art collection made it well worth the trip. Fun fact: right next to the hotel, you'll also find the American Motorcycle Museum, home to a private collection of more than 100 vintage American motorcycles. a nice little surprise if you're not expecting it. Overall, this is a nice hotel if you're passing through the region. The staff were genuinely friendly, and while the room felt a little dusty and outdated, it was perfectly comfortable for a night or two. My one real complaint: no air conditioning, just a fan. On a warm night, that's definitely something to keep in mind.
