Lage Vuursche (Ambience) (See description for more info)

Lage Vuursche is one of my favorite places to visit! a small, picturesque village surrounded by forests and open meadows, and honestly one of the most relaxing spots you can find. There are several beautiful walking routes here, taking you through the woods, past open fields, and along quiet country lanes. It's the perfect place to slow down and enjoy nature. The village is also home to Kasteel Drakensteyn, the residence of Princess Beatrix. She purchased the castle back in 1959 and lived there with her family for many years before moving to Paleis Huis ten Bosch when she became queen. After stepping down as queen in 2013, she returned to live at Drakensteyn once again, where she still resides today. The estate itself isn't open to the public, but the surrounding walking and cycling routes offer lovely glimpses of the castle from a distance. Lage Vuursche's own history goes back centuries, tied closely to the estate. The village really began to take shape in the 17th century, when Gerard van Reede had the current castle built and laid the foundations for a proper community. a church, a school, a mill, and a few homes. Today it's a charming, protected village with dozens of historic monuments, tucked away in the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Food-wise, I had a delicious pancake at Restaurant Het Vuursche Bos, and in the evening I had dinner at Restaurant Lage Vuursche.Both great spots if you're looking for a bite to eat during your visit.
