September 23, 2026: My morning walk in gratitude… They Always Find Me… You can always tell when I’m at the pier. Just look for the wings. It doesn’t seem to matter what time I arrive anymore. Somehow, they know. Birds begin flying in from every direction, filling the sky above me, landing along the railing and circling back for another flyby. There is something incredibly beautiful about being recognized by a little wild creature. They don’t have my schedule. They don’t know what time I’m supposed to arrive. Yet somehow, they always find me. Pegleg has been especially vocal lately, making absolutely certain there is no possibility of me overlooking him. I don’t think that could ever happen but apparently Pegleg believes reminders are necessary. And then there was Adonis, high above on his post, standing his ground. There was a little drama in the sky today when a gull came over to challenge his prime real estate, but Adonis wasn’t going anywhere. His post, his rules. Everywhere I looked, there were wings. And today’s message felt perfect: “Be extra!!! Extra kind. Extra silly. Extra happy. Extra caring. Extra weird.” Maybe that’s exactly how we should live. Give a little extra kindness. Notice a little more. Laugh a little louder. Care a little deeper. Be completely yourself. Because you never really know what might begin finding its way back to you. There was a time when I could have walked onto this same pier and barely noticed the pigeons around me. Now they recognize me before I can possibly recognize all of them. What a beautiful reminder that when we start noticing the world, sometimes the world begins noticing us right back. Today the sky was full of wings, and my heart was full of gratitude. Thank you, life. For the birds. For the blue sky. For Pegleg’s opinions. For Adonis and his morning drama. And most of all, for another day of being found. Capturing beauty, sharing light. —April
