Why does your slider thigh pull underneath your body when you get into your curling slide?
You might be able to get into the right position on the back boards, but as soon as you get into a slide, your thigh rotates underneath you, your foot turns in, or your hips start aiming away from the target.
There are a few different reasons this can happen, including limitations in hip mobility, a lack of strength and control, or simply a lack of body awareness.
In this video, I walk through 3 off-ice exercises that can help you improve your awareness, range of motion, strength and control so you can work toward a more balanced and stable slide.
We'll cover:
1. Sidelying knee rolls
2. 1/2 kneeling rock and reach
3. Isometric split squat
These exercises are designed to help you take what you're working on off the ice and apply it to your curling delivery.
If you try these exercises, I'd love to hear how they work for you! Even better, send me some before and after video of your slide.
This is a tough delivery issue to give blanket advice for, so I'm curious to see how well these exercises work for different curlers.
If you're still struggling with your delivery, I also offer individualized delivery audits where you send me video of your slide and I help you troubleshoot what's happening, adjust your technique, and identify specific off-ice exercises to help.
The EP Lab is finishing up the off-season in September, and in October we're shifting to a mix of on-ice and off-ice recommendations to help you take your training onto the ice.
