#LifeInJapan #RuralJapan #ASMR Pistachios, smoked with oak chips from old whisky barrels, in a tiny smokehouse in the mountains of Kochi. Three smokers, 230 grams each, then bagged by hand, 60 grams at a time. The sweet smell of whisky oak chips, filling the whole room. 🥃 🎧 Best with headphones — the crackle of the chips, the hiss of the smoke, and the crack of pistachio shells. A quiet, no-talking smokehouse ASMR. Today starts with carrying the smokers to the window, and ends back home, with a little reward after a long day of work. No talking, no music — just the sounds of the smokehouse, and the crack of pistachio shells. You can watch it while working, cooking, or winding down at the end of your own long day. ――― 🌿 In this video, you'll see: ・Getting three smokers ready by the window ・Oak chips from old whisky barrels (no alcohol — just the scent of the wood chips) ・Spreading pistachios on the racks by hand ・Smoke rising, then the lids go on ・Lifting the lid to a soft golden color ・Kitchen paper to soak up extra moisture, then into the pot ・Weighing 60 g bags one by one, and vacuum sealing ・Back home: smoked pistachios with a Japanese whisky 🔥 Smoke at my little smokehouse ・In Japan, cherry wood is a popular choice for smoking chips. But I like to choose the wood chips to match each food, because every food has its own best match. ・For the sweetness of pistachios, it's the sweet, rich aroma of whisky barrel oak chips. 🙋 Who makes this ・I started smoking food 8 years ago, and this is my 5th year running my own smokehouse in the mountains of Kochi. 🔥 Today's smoke ・Pistachios — oak chips from old whisky barrels, 230 g in each smoker, three at a time ――― 📖 Just so you know "Otsukaresama" is what we say in Japan to thank someone for their hard work — at the end of a long day, to a friend, a coworker, or even to yourself. 💭 From the smokehouse The whisky oak chip aroma filled the whole room, and it smelled so good. It rained in the morning, but the sun peeked through now and then — a really nice day to make these. Thinking of pistachio fans all over Japan waiting for them really keeps me going. ――― I hope this gives you a quiet, cozy moment at the end of your day, wherever you are. What's your favorite snack after a long day? Whether you've been here from the start or just found this channel, thank you for spending this day with me.
