Verse 1 Have mercy on me, God of grace, According to Your steadfast love; My sins have risen to Your face— Wash me in mercy from above. I know my guilt, I see my shame, The evil I have done is mine; Against You only I have sinned, And grieved the heart that made me Thine. Chorus Create in me a clean heart, O God, Renew a steadfast spirit in me; Do not cast me from Your presence, Lord, But let Your salvation set me free. Restore the joy of Your saving grace, Let a willing spirit hold me fast— Through the blood of Christ, the Lamb who died, Have mercy on me, O God, at last. Verse 2 You do not ask for sacrifice That I could bring to earn Your face; A broken spirit, contrite heart— These are the gifts You will not waste. Purge me with hyssop, I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be white as snow; Let me hear joy and gladness ring, And let these broken bones rejoice and know. Verse 3 O Lord, unlock these silent lips, And let my mouth declare Your praise; You take no pleasure in the blood of bulls— You seek a heart that turns and stays. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners will return to You; My tongue will sing of Your righteousness, My mouth will show what grace can do. Verse 4 In Your good pleasure, build Your church, Let Zion's walls arise again; Then You will delight in righteous gifts, And offerings made by broken men. Not by the works that we could bring, But by the mercy of Your Son— Who bore our sin upon the tree And made the guilty clean and one. Final Chorus Create in me a clean heart, O God, Renew a steadfast spirit in me; Do not cast me from Your presence, Lord, But let Your salvation set me free. Restore the joy of Your saving grace, Let a willing spirit hold me fast— Through the blood of Christ, the Lamb who died, Have mercy on me, O God, at last. Closing Doxology To the Father, Son, and Spirit be All glory, honour, praise, and power; Who cleanses, renews, and sets us free— Our Rock, Redeemer, and our Tower. Amen.
