Torrential, climate-induced floods in Wadi Abeerah, Taiz Governorate, have long caused sever erosion, sweeping away fertile soil and forcing farmers to abandon their lands. Without local fodder and crops, many families were even forced to sell off their livestock to survive.
Through our Food Security Response and Resilience Project (FSRRP), targeted flood protection walls were constructed to break the cycle of loss. By securing around 30 hectares of valuable farmland from erosive floodwaters, this intervention is giving farmers the confidence they need to return to their farms. The project also generated over 300 work opportunities during construction and directly supports 160 farmers, including women farmers.
This vital intervention is made possible thanks to the @WorldBankGroup and our valuable partnership with Public Works Projects (PWP).
