Fotyen’s Journey to Self-Reliance: MPCA Support in Tigray_POSITIVE ACTION FOR DEVELOPMENT (PAD)

From Survival to Self-Reliance: Fotyen’s Story! in Adi Gudom, Tigray, Fotyen Khasay was struggling to support her children and care for her ill mother after her small business failed, leaving her in debt and considering going to Saudi Arabia in search of work. Just when she was about to give up, Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA), provided by Positive Action for Development (PAD) with funding from the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (EHF), offered her a new opportunity. Through flexible cash assistance, the MPCA programme enables vulnerable households to make their own decisions based on their most urgent needs and priorities, supporting recovery, self-reliance, and renewed hope. With the assistance, Fotyen was able to cover her family’s basic needs, buy medicine for her mother, and reopen her tea and coffee shop. She is now supporting her family, repaying her debt, and looking forward to expanding her business.
