A shocking incident has been reported from the Shahbad Dairy police station area of Outer North Delhi, where three youths were allegedly beaten on suspicion of theft on Tuesday morning. One of the youths died, while two others sustained injuries. Police have detained five people in connection with the alleged assault and are in the process of registering an FIR. According to police, at around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, they received information that some people had caught a suspected thief and were beating him. A police team immediately reached the spot, where three injured youths were found. All three were taken to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared one of them, identified as Hasan Mangal, dead. His body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem examination, while the other two injured youths are undergoing treatment. Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident is linked to an alleged attempt to commit theft. According to information available so far, around four to five youths had allegedly reached the area and attempted to break the lock of a shop. Hearing the sound of the lock being broken, local residents gathered at the spot and tried to catch the youths. While some of them managed to escape, one of the youths was caught by people at the scene. The youth allegedly caught by the locals was then beaten. He sustained serious injuries during the incident. Police subsequently took three injured youths to the hospital. Hasan Mangal, however, was declared dead by doctors. Police are now investigating exactly what happened during the incident, who was involved in the assault and under what circumstances the youth suffered the injuries that ultimately resulted in his death. Police have also examined the criminal background of the deceased. According to police, nine criminal cases were already registered against Hasan Mangal. He was also an absconding BC, or bad-character history-sheeter, of Narela Industrial Area police station. However, the existence of previous criminal cases does not by itself establish what happened during this particular incident. Investigators are now focusing on determining the circumstances that led to his death and the role played by each person present at the spot. The matter took another serious turn after the victim's family reached the location. The family has alleged that when they were sitting near Hasan, some people from the crowd also attacked them with sticks, rods and pipes. Several family members were allegedly injured in the attack, and they have reportedly suffered visible injuries. The family members said Hasan had left home for work. They maintained that even if he was suspected of attempting to steal, he should have been handed over to the police instead of being beaten. The family has demanded strict legal action against all those allegedly involved in the assault, stating that no individual or crowd has the right to take the law into their own hands. Following the incident, senior Delhi Police officials reached the spot along with additional police personnel. Crime and forensic teams inspected the scene and collected evidence. Police are also examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the area to establish how the incident began, who was present at the location and what exactly happened during the alleged assault. Police have detained five people suspected of involvement in the beating. Their individual roles are being investigated. The process of registering an FIR is underway, and further legal action will be taken on the basis of the post-mortem report, CCTV footage, forensic evidence and other findings of the investigation. The investigation is currently focusing on two major aspects. First, whether the youths were actually attempting to break into the shop and commit theft.
