Strange magic from 2nd Edition D&D

In the 1980's/early '90's we began to develop our Magic Users around the ideas in 2nd Edition. Magic Users trained in specific disciplines and we were certainly very serious but, before the campaigning season began as winter witnessed early thaws, adventurers and warriors would gather in Rye to seek honour and glory at The Rye Games. This is an explanation of the game with a genuine example of how one of our Wizards played a winning bout back in 1997.
