This song comes from Acts 12, when Peter was imprisoned and the angel of the Lord came to deliver him. What caught my attention was how Peter responded. The angel told him to rise, gird himself, put on his sandals, and follow—and Peter did it. I thought about how differently I sometimes respond to God. I want to know where we are going. Let me see the roadmap. I want to know how it is going to work out. I want the gate opened before I ever leave the cell. But Peter didn't need the iron gate opened while he was still sitting in prison. He simply obeyed the instruction God had given him, and when he reached the gate, God opened it. That became the thought behind *“Help Me Put My Shoes On.”* While I'm asking for the answers, Peter's already on his feet. Sometimes God doesn't show us the whole road. He gives us enough light for the step in front of us. My prayer is that I won't spend so much time asking God about tomorrow that I fail to obey Him today. Acts 12:7 “And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.” Acts 12:8 “And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did.
