What Is Sin? Treason Against God, Not Just Broken Rules | Genesis 3:1-13

This sermon explains what sin is and how we became sinners, using the fall of Adam and Eve in Genesis 3. Sin is more than breaking God's rules. It exists apart from the law, reaches the intent behind a command, includes violating conscience, and at its root is treason: a will set against God's will. The law acts as a tutor, showing us that our hearts don't love God as we think they do. The second half asks how Adam's sin touches everyone. Sinfulness is a status we inherit from conception, and each of us also chooses our own sins. That can feel unfair, so the sermon gives four responses, ending with the real unfairness: Jesus, who never rebelled, took our guilt and offers free grace. Listeners are invited to repent, receive that gift, and become new people who can love God and align their wills with his.
