🎧 Welcome to Jazz Bil Arabi — where the sounds, stories, and cultures of the Arab world are reimagined through jazz. Put on your headphones, let the music play, and follow the story behind this album. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📖 THE STORY | القصة 👑 ZENOBIA — PALMYRA BEFORE THE RUINS Today, we know Palmyra through its ruins. But nearly two thousand years ago, those silent columns belonged to one of the great caravan cities of the ancient world. Rising from an oasis in the Syrian desert, Palmyra stood between powerful worlds. Caravans connected it to Mesopotamia and routes reaching farther east, while its political and commercial ties extended toward the Mediterranean and the Roman world. Wealth from this trade helped create a monumental city of colonnaded streets, temples, courtyards and elaborate tombs. Its culture reflected its position at a crossroads. Palmyra was neither simply Roman nor easily reduced to one identity. Its inscriptions, names, art and architecture reveal a complex society shaped by local Semitic traditions alongside Greco-Roman and other regional influences. Then came Zenobia. In the third century CE, Queen Zenobia emerged as the ruler of Palmyra after the death of her husband, Odaenathus. During a period when the Roman Empire was facing severe internal instability, Palmyrene forces expanded dramatically. Zenobia's power reached into Egypt and across significant parts of the Roman East. For a brief moment, a desert city in Syria stood at the center of a realm powerful enough to challenge Rome's control of the region. It did not last. Emperor Aurelian launched a campaign against Zenobia's forces, defeated them, and restored Roman authority. Zenobia was captured in 272 CE. What happened to her afterward is less certain, and later accounts transformed the historical queen into something even larger: a symbol of ambition, intelligence, power and defiance. But this album looks beyond the famous queen herself. It imagines Palmyra while its streets were still alive — merchants arriving from distant lands, caravans approaching the oasis, languages and cultures meeting beneath monumental columns, and music echoing through a city that had no idea it would one day be remembered primarily as ruins. 00:00 The Queen and the Caravan City 02:58 Sandstone Lyre 05:38 Tadmor Lyre Caravan 08:29 Palmyra Beyond the Desert 10:30 Rome Is Coming 13:19 Zenobia Over Living Palmyra 16:23 Palmyra Before the Ruins 16:53 Caravan of Ash 20:18 Palm Caravan Routes 22:31 Dust Of Palmyra ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ © Jazz Bil Arabi 2026.
