Charcoal Fire | Ellery Stone

The night Jesus was arrested, Peter followed him into the high priest's courtyard. It was cold, the servants had built a charcoal fire, and Peter stood there warming his hands while he denied knowing him, three times over. The rooster crowed, and in Luke's account the Lord turned and looked at him. After the resurrection Peter went back to fishing. At dawn Jesus was standing on the shore beside another charcoal fire, cooking, telling them to come and have breakfast. Afterwards came three questions, one for each denial, and after each answer, feed my sheep, and then, follow me. John uses the Greek word for a charcoal fire twice in the whole New Testament, once at the denial and once at the restoration.
