On a cold November afternoon in the Japanese Alps, this Mini Walking Tour explores Takayama in under 20 minutes, descending from a hillside shrine said to be the oldest in town to a weeping willow the city has registered as a protected landmark. Along the way, a goddess of thresholds gives way to ten stone judges of the dead, two bronze creatures of myth show how to fish as a team, and a family-run brewery carries its craft through ten generations. Set among the mountains of Gifu Prefecture’s Hida region, Takayama’s story begins with its carpenters: for centuries they were sent to the capital in place of the usual taxes, and their skill, along with the region’s timber, later brought the town under the shogun’s direct rule. The prosperous Edo-period merchant town that followed still stands, in dark wooden houses, sake breweries and temple gates, and has earned the nickname of “Little Kyoto”. ⛩️ Higashiyama Hakusan Shrine — Takayama’s oldest shrine, and a goddess of thresholds 🙏 Daiō-ji Temple — carpenters, judges of the dead, and a hall rebuilt from fire 🎣 Kajibashi Bridge — Ashinaga and Tenaga, Takayama’s mythical fishing duo 🏘️ Sanmachi Suji — the historic heart of Takayama’s Edo-period old town 🏮 Kamisanno-machi — the old town’s most iconic street 🐉 Takayama Festival Floats — Ryūjin-tai and its dragon-god performance 🍣 Kottei Ushi — Takayama’s famous Hida beef sushi 🌾 The History of Takayama’s Sake — pure mountain water and centuries of brewing 🍶 Harada Sake Brewery — ten generations of family craft 🌳 Nakabashi Bridge — The iconic Vermilion-Red bridge over the Miyagawa river 🧭 Route: Higashiyama Hakusan Shrine → Daiō-ji Temple → Kajibashi Bridge → Sanmachi Suji → Kamisanno-machi → Nakabashi Bridge ─────────────────────── TOUR DETAILS 📍 Location: Takayama, Japan 🗓️ Friday, 21 November 2025 ⏰ Start time: 15:55 h 🌡️ Temp: 5ºC | 41ºF 🗺️ Route map: https://maps.app.goo.gl/6spxMsg3vNrhR... ─────────────────────── 🚶— Visit our main channel to experience the extended version of this tour with optional music and guided narration (Audio Guide or Subtitles) →    / @world_paths   🎞️ PLAYLISTS — Discover our curated playlists on the channel homepage →    / @world_paths_mini_tours   ⭐️ SUBSCRIBE — Enjoyed the walk?
