In October 1944, Aachen became the first major German city to fall to the Western Allies — and the fighting there exposed a hard truth about the Panther tank. On paper, the Panther's 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 was one of the finest tank guns of the war, capable of defeating almost any Allied armour at ranges beyond a thousand metres. Inside Aachen, those ranges did not exist.
This documentary examines why the Panther's greatest strength became irrelevant in urban combat, and how American infantry, engineers and self-propelled guns dismantled German armour street by street.
