Come with me to a local Vietnamese market, then spend the evening in our home. My name is Huong. I am 40 years old and a mother of three sons, ages 11, 9, and 3. We live near Van Trung Industrial Park in Bac Ninh, Vietnam. Money is tight, so everyday choices matter: what to buy, how much to cook, and what to save for another meal. Today, my second son joins me to shop for dinner. Back in my small kitchen, I prepare pork, ribs, taro, fried tofu, leafy greens, and rice. I put the extra meat in the freezer for another day and keep the vegetable cooking water to serve with our meal. These small habits help me make good use of what we buy.
