Welcome back to African Family Homestead! ❤️🌿 Warm greetings from our beautiful African village in Uganda! 🇺🇬 Today, we invite you to spend another peaceful afternoon with our family as we prepare a delicious traditional African village dinner using fresh, homegrown ingredients. 🌿🍲 Our afternoon begins at 3:38 PM, with Mama Jane bringing fresh beans for the family to shell together. Everyone lends a helping hand, carefully removing the beans from their pods as we prepare for our evening meal. Afterward, Mama Jane and Andrew walk through our beautiful banana plantation in search of a mature bunch of matooke (green cooking bananas). After finding a good bunch, Mama Jane carefully cuts it down. Along the way, she meets a neighbour, and they enjoy a friendly village conversation. Before returning home, Mama Jane makes a traditional head pad using banana leaves to help balance the heavy bunch of matooke on her head. With Andrew accompanying her, they make their way back to our homestead. Back at home, Tata Musa is busy splitting firewood while Mama Jane prepares the traditional wood fire. She washes the freshly shelled beans and begins cooking them. As the beans cook, Mama Jane starts peeling the freshly harvested matooke. Meanwhile, Tata Musa brings out a pumpkin and carefully cuts it into pieces to accompany our traditional dinner. Mama Jane washes the matooke and pumpkin, while Andrew helps prepare the banana leaves. Using these leaves, Mama Jane carefully wraps the matooke and pumpkin for traditional steaming over the wood fire. Later, she prepares a delicious fresh bean sauce using simple ingredients, bringing together the wonderful flavours of our African village kitchen. 🍲❤️ Everything is prepared with love, patience, and the simple traditions passed down through generations. Unfortunately, just as Mama Jane was about to serve dinner, darkness fell, and we had no electricity in our village. We were unable to continue filming the final serving of our meal. Even though we couldn’t capture the ending, we hope you enjoyed spending this beautiful afternoon with our family. This is our everyday life in rural Uganda — growing our own food, cooking over firewood, sharing responsibilities, and appreciating the simple blessings of village life. ❤️ Thank you so much for being part of our African Family Homestead family! 🌿 What traditional meal do you enjoy preparing in your country? 🌍 Where in the world are you watching us from?
