How well is your body actually aging? These 10 functional fitness tests challenge your strength, balance, mobility, grip and muscular endurance; physical qualities that can help you remain active and independent as you get older.
Give yourself one point for every benchmark you complete successfully, then use your final score to identify which areas may need more attention.
The 10 tests
Single-leg sit-to-stand from a knee-height bench
Single-leg balance for 30 seconds
Face-the-wall squat
Dead hang for 20 seconds
Ten strict floor push-ups
One strict pull-up
Back-scratch shoulder-mobility test
Standing toe touch
Wall sit for 45 seconds
Forearm plank for 60 seconds
Your score
0–3: Major gaps—start rebuilding your foundation
4–5: Basic foundation with several weak links
6–8: Solid functional capacity—address missing areas
9–10: Strong performance across this fitness battery
Your individual failed tests may matter more than your total. Difficulty balancing requires a different solution than limited shoulder mobility, weak pulling strength or poor lower-body endurance.
These tests do not calculate your biological age or predict your lifespan. They form a practical, coach-designed fitness screen and do not assess aerobic capacity, blood pressure, blood sugar, body composition or medical history. Passing every test does not guarantee longevity, and failing several does not diagnose poor health.
