This video teaches Learning Outcome 3 of Unit 4, Promoting a Positive Health and Safety Culture, on the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. You will assess how leadership types affect safety performance, using Lewin, Goleman, Bass and the research of Clarke (2013), Barling and colleagues (2002) and Kelloway and colleagues (2006). You will outline organisation types and structures using Mintzberg, with the benefits and limitations of each, and see how the structure of safety functions mattered in the BP Texas City explosion of 2005. You will explain the challenges of managing contractors and other third parties, using HSE guidance INDG368 and HSG65, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. You will explain formal and informal consultation with workers under the Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations 1977 and the Health and Safety (Consultation with Employees) Regulations 1996, with the Springfield Fuels case study. The video suits safety officers, supervisors, managers and learners preparing for IOSH membership who need UK law as the worked case and international comparison. It ends with what a Pass looks like for criteria 3.1 to 3.4 and how this evidence supports Task 2.
