The Wannie Line, Northumberland | Spring Afternoon Walk | Part 1

Still Northumberland Field Notes Location: The Wannie Line (Scots Gap), Northumberland, England Date: 31 May 2026 Join me for a quiet spring afternoon walking the Wannie Line in Northumberland. This walk follows part of the old Wannie and Rothbury railway lines through the Wallington Estate, where the route has gradually been reclaimed by nature. The walk passes open farmland, woodland, old quarry remains, lime kilns, and stretches alongside the Delf Burn before returning towards Scots Gap. The trail is mostly level, although some sections can become muddy after rain, so walking boots are recommended. Still Northumberland captures landscapes as they are experienced, on that day, in that weather, and as they are walked. No talking. No music. Just natural sound.
