Welcome to the October episode of our subscription coffee tasting series. Tim was joined by Arman Surizehi, who is also a subscriber to our coffee subscription. Arman came along to join the tasting and try the coffees selected for this month’s subscription. This month, I’ve chosen two genetically similar cultivars, Caturra and Pacas, which are both dwarf mutations of Bourbon, grown in two different countries. The idea is to give you an understanding of how these cultivars can taste when grown under different conditions. The Caturra and Pacas were also harvested a year apart. Although most coffees will gradually fade and develop woody flavours over time, we have been working for more than a decade to slow down this ageing process by implementing better drying, storage, and logistics protocols on the farms. This is why the Caturra from Tamana tastes just as fresh as the newly harvested Pacas from Nacimiento. As a bonus this month, we’re also sending out the Geisha from Jobneel’s farm, El Vikingo, so that you can taste the difference between cultivars grown in more or less the same environment. Let's taste them: 00:00 Subscription information 02:45 How we work 04:27 Finca Tamana Caturra flavour notes 05:15 Finca Tamana 07:22 Caturra cultivar 08:09 Nacimiento Pacas 08:50 Nacimiento Pacas flavour notes 09:32 Finca Nacimiento 13:00 Finca El Vikingo flavour notes 13:52 Contrasting coffees 15:20 Finca El Vikingo 16:45 Geisha coffee information 18:55 Arman’s favorite coffee
