STURRY LINK ROAD | EPISODE 35 | RISING | FORMED | FILLED

The Sturry Link Road viaduct is starting to rise above ground. Episode 35 marks another major change across the project, as the first two permanent pier columns are poured at Pier Two. Each column is 1.2 metres in diameter, with the shutters forming the specified F6 profiled finish that will eventually be visible on the completed structure. Elsewhere this week, three of the pier cofferdams move into the backfilling stage, Pier One returns to steel fixing following the additional piling works, and the six temporary piles between Piers One and Two begin progressing towards the temporary trestle arrangement that will support the first bridge beams during assembly. At the South Abutment, reinforcement continues climbing the angled wing wall profile while large sections of formwork are prepared for the next concrete stages. We also follow the final blinding works at the North Abutment, where excavation and pile cropping are nearing completion. This week includes: • First two permanent pier columns poured at Pier Two • 1.2 metre diameter profiled concrete columns • Pier Two backfilling completed • Piers Three and Four progressing through backfill • Pier One reinforcement begins again • Temporary pile foundation works progress • South Abutment wing wall steel fixing • North Abutment blinding completed • Preparation continues for the first viaduct beams After months of piling, excavation and foundations, more of the permanent viaduct is finally beginning to appear above ground.
