Imagine standing in a Roman formation as a forest of Macedonian spears moves toward you, while Alexander the Great and his elite cavalry prepare to strike your flank.
What happens when Rome's battle-hardened army meets Alexander's Macedonian war machine at the height of his power?
In this historical what-if, we place Alexander at his peak and the Roman army around 200 BC, the same Roman military system that had just survived the Second Punic War and defeated Hannibal. We explore what would happen if Alexander invaded Italy, from the first clash between the Macedonian phalanx and Roman maniples to the role of cavalry, battlefield terrain, Roman military flexibility, Alexander's leadership, manpower, Italian allies, sieges, and the possibility of a long war of attrition.
The answer may have less to do with who was better in a single battle than you think.
Topics covered: Alexander the Great's Macedonian army, the sarissa phalanx, Companion Cavalry, Roman legions and maniples, Roman tactics against the phalanx, the battles of Cynoscephalae and Pydna, Pyrrhus and Rome, Alexander's battlefield tactics, Roman manpower and alliances, Fabius' strategy against Hannibal, Alexander's siege warfare, and the question of whether Rome could survive a full-scale invasion by Alexander the Great.

This video is created for educational and entertainment purposes. While every effort is made to present the historical background accurately, some details are simplified, interpreted, or used in a fictional what-if scenario for storytelling.
Much of what we know about Alexander, Rome, and the Macedonian army comes from surviving written sources, archaeology, and later historical accounts, all of which have limitations. Historians may disagree on numbers, military practices, and interpretations.
This video does not claim that the events described actually happened. The hypothetical scenario is used to explore how differences in military organization, cavalry, terrain, leadership, manpower, alliances, siege warfare, and strategy might have affected a conflict between Alexander the Great and Rome.
